April 2005 - Australian Institute of Management Presentation

Bronwen ran an interactive workshop for the AIM Special Interest Group "Public Speaking Forum" on 28th April. For more information on this group, please log onto www.aimvic.com.au . The energy and positive attitude of all the participants made this a tremendous success. A comment from one of the participants:

"I really wanted to compliment you on the job you did last night. It was excellent - everyone was involved and I observed and heard that each person appreciated that fact." Andrew Coogan, ESGE Asia Pacific Pty Ltd, www.candino.com

Here's some information on the workshop::

ACTIVE LEARNING means converting your knowledge into skills. Active learning leads to enhanced performance and a better way of doing things. Join us for a proactive workshop to practice your public speaking skills and put your learning into action to find that better way. We'll start with some hints on what makes an effective speech and how to give specific and positive feedback. We have volunteers from our group who are going to present a 3 minute speech on what we have learned in the previous sessions - these were: "Sell Your Idea: The Art of Powerful & Persuasive Speaking" and "How to Eliminate Umms and make Public Speaking Life Easy". If you were there, you will get a refresher and if you missed those nights, you will get a snippet of the key takeaways from the sessions. Then it will be your turn to give your feedback to the speakers - tell them what you liked about their speech, and count their ums and ahs - you might be surprised at the varied results! The aim of the workshop is to give everyone the chance to practise their listening, speaking and feedback skills - and to have fun!
